Section titled “Sunday May 3, 2026 - Zoom Discussion 12:30 PM EST - Lucretius Book Review - Lucretius Book 1 - 430 - Concluding There Is Nothing Else Beyond Matter and Void”
  1. Welcome and news / requests for new topics. We’ll continue to deal with individual topics as they occur. Just message me and we will set up an agenda each week that allows for new topics.
  2. Please help us stay on topic. Don’t be afraid to comment or ask questions about the implication of any section we are covering, but please remember that there are controversies outside the scope of our project that we don’t have time to cover.
  3. Every session let’s try to cover questions like:
    1. What is the context of this section?
    2. Why included at this point in the presentation?
    3. What are the major points Lucretius is making?
    4. What are the implications of these points?
  4. Notes on New Topics / Announcements: This week we will continue with Lucretius Book 1:430. with the Void And Its Implications
  • Discussion
    • Do ideas exist? Does the number three exist?
    • Are there natural principles that govern things like rotation of the planets? Do these principles “exist?”
    • What are we talking about? Are we talking about what it means to “exist”? Or something else? What distinction are we trying to make?
    • What about angels? Can they act or be acted upon?
    • If “materialism” requires hard bodies, then it’s probably insufficient as a current theory. If “materialism” is broad enough to include waves, energy, quanta, etc, then it’s not necessarily obsolete. So what is the test? The ability to act or be acted upon?
    • The term “observable universe” would mean that there is stuff “further out” - not that it is not necessary to detect it at all. (pretty much Tau Phi’s position) MEANS OF DETECTION is key to Tau Phi.
    • When if ever is it permissible to say “we haven’t discovered it yet but it could be real”? If someone says “it is undiscoverable” that is over the line.
    • Some people say that there are some things that are BY DEFINITION undiscoverable by humans
